Unmistakable Love

“And may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all men, just as we also do for you.“
1 Thessalonians 3:11-13
Pastor Paul again finds himself praying for the church in Thessalonica even as he’s writing to them. And notice what he prays for: the factor of “abounding love“ for the believers in that church for one another and for all is the heart of the prayer this pastor prayed for his people. Pastor Paul did not pray for the Thessalonian church to have greater impact, growth, success, or numbers. All of these things can be achieved in the flesh. But “abounding love” can only be a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is unusual, unmistakable, and attributable only to God. Thus, HE gets the glory. May it be so among us.
Chief Shepherd, may the church where I attend grow more not in impressive numbers or exciting programs as much as in “Spirit-guided-love.” And let that unmistakable work of God start with me as I influence others with whom I fellowship. In the name of the Savior, Amen.
